On Monday, tens of thousands of people across Israel, Palestine, and around the world witnessed the 21st Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony, organised by Combatants for Peace and the Parents Circle – Families Forum.

The ceremony brought together powerful testimonies from bereaved families, moving musical performances, and messages of hope rooted in a shared belief: that healing begins with recognising each other’s pain. In the midst of overwhelming violence and deepening dehumanisation, Israelis and Palestinians came together to transform profound pain into an assertion of our shared humanity.

We joined this global moment from London, hosting a live screening at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. Alongside tens of thousands worldwide, we witnessed, reflected, and remembered together.

We were honoured to be joined in person by Ben Yeger, UK representative of Combatants for Peace and former IDF soldier, and Anas Dayeh, a Palestinian peace activist and student, who shared personal reflections following the screening.

The evening concluded with candle lighting and a moment of remembrance in honour of all lives lost in the conflict.

About the Ceremony

The Joint Memorial Ceremony, organized by Combatants for Peace and The Parents Circle-Families Forum, is one of the largest Israeli-Palestinian peace events in history. It offers a powerful opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians to grieve together and demand an end to the occupation and violence.

Held annually on the eve of Yom HaZikaron, this ceremony serves as an alternative to traditional Israeli commemoration services, which often reinforce a narrative of victimhood, division and glorify a one-sided, nationalistic narrative. The Joint Memorial Ceremony acknowledges the shared pain of both peoples and demonstrates that we can choose to put an end to the cycle of violence.
